VPSC vs Doveton SSS

As a soccer director of Doveton Special Soccer School I like to give a big thanks to all the players of the Victoria Police Soccer Club for your support and sportsmanship, our players training very hard for this special game of the year, also thanks to Ron Sinclair for organising the trip to AAMI Park Stadium, the players, families and committee members of the club enjoyed the wonderful day of football…once again thanks to everybody involved on the day.

Also leave the coment from Sargent Ron Sinclair.

VPSC’s annual match with our friends from Doveton Special Soccer School was yet another exciting encounter, played in front of a loud and encouraging crowd.

The first half was an unusually cagey and low scoring, in part due to Candice‘s cat like reflexes (you know – that grumpy cat on You Tube!), exemplified by an unusual save, when she tried to get out of the way of a piledriver, only to cop a mammoth whack in the guts. Her bravery was summed up nicely by Coach Sinclair, who called out, “You idiot!”

Tony‘s consistent ‘take no prisoner’ defending was straight out of the Kevin Muscat Book of Broken Bones, with a number of challenges borderline indictable offences! VPSC’s defensive line was at last broken by a curling shot from our long time nemesis, Simon, after he had nutmeg Paul twice. This opened the flood gates and was soon followed by an absolute screamer from Big Dave, our DSSS Guest Player. Two quick fire goals to DSSS made it 1-3 at half time.

If the first half was a little dour, the second half was as Thrilling as a Michael Jackson video clip. VPSC were determined to claw back, so moved Glenn (sorry, Greg) into goal, Candy up front and made better use of the Mckinney boys’ goal poaching, Ryan‘s pace and Michael‘s treachery. Unfortunately, DSSS’s keeper was having a blinder and he made a fantastic double save before Lucy Kapusta missed a sitter! Puts scored from a dubious position, with suspicions that the ball was out of play (he actually shot from the car park), before Candy showed why she is usually in goal, by hitting a shot that missed the World! Nica An and Emma Jo were bossing the midfield and managed to again set up Lucy, who made it 3-3. VPSC were riding their luck, with Ryan matching Candy’s goal line clearance (you idiot!), DSSS hitting the post and Greg making a great save, before taking things into his own hands with a maze dribble from his own penalty area into the DSSS area, before a comedy of errors made it 3-4 to DSSS. James was a hazard to low flying aircraft with his wayward shooting, Ryan scored with a curler, Emma set up Big Dave and it was 6-6 with minutes left. Paul committed a foul in the box, which everyone in Doveton saw, except referee Gerard Connolly, who clearly had the sun and 3 barrows of sand in his eyes. Even Gerry couldn’t miss a ‘pick up and carry’ foul by Ryan, tho and DSSS made it 6-7 with the resultant penalty. VPSC won their own penalty when some lunatic invaded the pitch, dribbled around Mr Milo (the Jack Russell) and set up Puts. It all came to nought, tho, as DSSS broke to make the final score VPSC 6 – DSSS 8.

The usual wonderful hospitality from Carlos, Cristina, Katri Loyola, Wendy (and that thug, Paul) and all of DSSS post match, with everyone sharing stories and laughs. And so, VPSC will have to wait one more year to FINALLY defeat the mighty Doveton Special Soccer School – see you in 2018!
