Games in Monbulk

On a wonder and hot Sunday morning, Doveton Special Soccer School played two games at te Monbulk Recreation Reserve. The day was sponsored by the Monbulk Rangers Soccer Club to encourage people with a disability to give soccer a try. The hot weather brought many participants as the turnout of new players was more than expected.

We’d like to thank Monbulk SC juniors for being part of the exhibition games. These included a small sided game involving the new players and a challenge match between the Doveton team and the Monbulk team which resulted in an exciting day of soccer. At the end of the game all the players had a sensational time.
Doveton Special Soccer School would like to acknowledge the hospitality of the Monbulk Soccer Club and the efforts of staff from Yarra Ranges Council who organised the event very professionally. We all agreed that we should try this again and hope the event becomes even bigger next time.

Police Game 2013

Once again, another fantastic day for our soccer team playing the Victoria Police SC for the eleventh year. After 80 minutes of hard and fast football, the score was tied up at 4-4, with Doveton SSS winning in the penalty shootout, 4-3.

After the game all players and families enjoyed a BBQ,  cake, tea and coffee thanks to the canteen committee ladies. To finish the day the police bus took all players and parents to AAMI Park to watch Melbourne Victory take on Perth Glory.

We would like to acknowledge the the great support from Ron Sinclair and all of the Victorian Police Officers who have been involved over the past eleven years. A big thank you as well for the donation of 20 Argentinean soccer tops. From all players, coaches and committee members, big thanks to the Police Soccer Club members.

2013 Holt Australia Day Awards

Cristina Loyola and Simon Pollock were awarded 2013 Holt Australia Day Awards for their contribution to disabled people. Anthony Byrne MP, Federal Member for Holt honoured 31 outstanding individuals and one local organisation for their contribution to our community on Australia Day. The 2013 Holt Australia Day Awards were presented at the Day of Nations celebrations in Hampton Park and at the Actively Diverse Day celebrations in Doveton. A large crowd of families and friends turned out to support the recipients.

“We as a country are at our best when we come together for the common good. In my view we do that better here than anywhere else in the country. On this day we want to recognise those who do this and contribute to the community to make our place a better place,” said Mr Byrne.

“I congratulate all those receiving Holt Australia Day Awards for their exemplary community spirit and endless hours of volunteer work making our community a better and safer place to live. These people do not get the same accolades as other famous people but in their own quiet Australian way they do tremendous work in giving their precious time to make other peoples’ lives better” said Mr Byrne.
